The Madness of Nuclear War



Not just a gorgeous sunset

Today, 8 August 2026, seems an appropriate time to post a reminder that for 80 years many of us have been living, and may continue to live, with the threat of Mutual Assured Destruction. 80 years ago the Japanese city of Hiroshima suffered the first-ever attack by a nuclear weapon. 

The event may have helped to bring an end to World War II, but it heralded a new dark period in human history. You can read about the doctrine of Mutual Assured Destruction – appropriately abbreviated as MAD –  at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mutual_assured_destruction
