A ‘sacred vessel’ in All Saints’ Church, East Budeigh

Local historian Graham Naylor is passionate about Devon’s churches, and found All Saints’ Church in East Budleigh ‘particularly lovely’, being drawn especially to its ancient font because of personal reasons.

‘It often amazes me how people pass fonts by without giving them much attention,’ he writes on his blog ‘Some Old Devon Churches’.

‘I stopped beside the font at All Saints to consider my own ancestors who once stood around that sacred vessel over the last few hundred years. Tactile history, yet contemporary also. How wonderful!’

So it’s a really special experience for Roger Conant’s descendants, like this visitor from California, when they come into contact with that very font in which their ancestor was baptised back in 1592.
